PBC Commissioners decided to allow development of closed Mizner Trail golf course... 5-2

New homes can rise on the closed Mizner Trail golf course near Boca RatonPalm Beach County commissioners decided Thursday, after years of developers and residents fighting over what to do with the land.
The final say, however, may come from the courts. The commission's decision to allow 252 homes is expected to spawn a legal fight over the future of the old golf course that snakes through the Boca Del Mar neighborhood.
The golf course owners have been pushing to allow development on the land since the course closed in 2005.
But through the years, a large contingent of nearby residents has been trying to protect the open spaces and golf course views they thought would always remain.
Neighborhood groups opposed to building on the golf course have said they would go to court to stop development.
"We will not go quietly. We will fight for what's ours," Boca Del Mar resident William Vale said.
Even though the County Commission rejected past building plans for the Mizner Trail golf course property, this time commissioners in a 5-2 vote decided that new homes should be allowed.

Six-month Parking

When you leave your wheels for months to the tender mercies of CV drivers, please note. Parking on a curve, or at the end of a row*, or next to intersection* can work out badly. Get permission for center of straight row if possible. One such double bad **.  Someone's sudden turn and avoidance of oncoming traffic - CRUNCH.

Free Speech, NOT Free Screech

Best headline ever in the UCO Reporter.
Here is part of Robert's Rules on Decorum in meetings.
"All remarks must be directed to the Chair. Remarks must be courteous in language and deportment - avoid all personalities, never allude to others by name or to motives!
If at any time the chairman rises to state a point of order, or give information, or otherwise speak, within his privilege, the member speaking must take his seat till the chairman has been heard first. When called to order by the chair the member must sit down until the question of order is decided. If his remarks are decided to be improper, he cannot proceed ..."

Temkin Customer Service Ratings

For the second year in a row, USAA earned the highest score in the Temkin Customer Service Ratings. USAA’s banking business took the top spot and the company’s insurance business tied with Amazon for second place in the ratings. Rounding out the top 12 companies in the ratings are Chick-fil-A, Publix, H-E-B, USAA (credit cards), credit unions, Starbucks, Costco, QVC, and Trader Joe’s.
The prize for the worst customer service goes to Comcast, which earned the lowest two scores in the ratings for its Internet service and TV service businesses. As a clear sign of collective customer neglect, Internet service providers, TV service providers, and health plans earned 11 out of the bottom 13 positions in the ratings.

The remaining companies with the lowest Temkin Customer Service Ratings are Highmark (BCBS), Time Warner Cable (TV service and Internet service), Coventry Health Care, Charter Communications (TV service), Verizon (Internet service), HSBC (credit cards), US Airways, Qwest (Internet service), Cablevision (Internet service), CareFirst (BCBS).

Library Drop Box - Car Drop

Yesterday a patron at the Okee Branch Library left her car, w/keys, purse, and wallet at the curb and took a few steps over to the Outside Book Drop. Two young guys jumped into the car and took off. Vroom!

I do not know if the car was recovered, STAY ALERT AND CAUTIOUS. Park properly and lock up.

Water Ready for Hurricane/Apocalypse

I went a step beyond the store-jugs-of-water advice. I have a Lifestraw in my go-bag.
Dirty water? Have a drink. LifeStraw is a purifier that provides instant access to safe drinking water with no need for electricity, chemicals or running water. The system is more effective than boiling water and doesn't require as much time or energy.
Search online for Lifestraw, they can be bought in many places, the one below has an extra good deed.
http://buylifestraw.com/buy-lifestraw  Buy a LifeStraw online. Your order will be fulfilled by Eartheasy.com. For each LifeStraw® water filter you buy, one school child in Africa receives clean water for an entire school year.

LifeStraw in Action
Both the family and personal models of LifeStraw eliminate sediment, bacteria and parasites from drinking water. The personal filter can stop particles measuring 0.2 microns -- small enough to filter tiny bacteria and parasites. Both models have filters that eliminate 99.9999 percent of the bacteria and 99.9 percent of the parasites present in the water. (As we said, only the family version can filter out viruses .002 microns.) It's important to note that both versions don't remove heavy chemicals or salt, so don't go sticking your LifeStraw in arsenic-laced water and expect refreshment.

Small Amoeba = 90 Microns
Staph A = .5 Micron
Average Virus = .005 Micron

Whining for a Committee

Would you believe you can go to UCO committee meetings, they are OPEN meetings.

My story: In 2013 I was in hospital when committees were populated in March. When I returned I did not whine for special attention, I just attended meetings and I gave my opinions. I had plenty UCO experience, but for someone who does not, what could be better.
Do not whine and blame just go to the meetings and get experience. We know one person will not go but at least many others will not be misled by her.

Medicare Advantage Cuts

Because people cannot afford health care they are reducing benefits #$%^&*
"The latest cuts are the consequence of a slowdown in the overall growth of Medicare spending — some of it owing to reduced utilization of medical services as a result of the slack economy. The Medicare program recently told the private plans that, since per capita costs are trending lower than prior estimates, the feds are now assuming that Medicare Advantage will take another cut in 2015, on top of existing reductions."
Please email and call your US Senator and Congress for help.
