Dogs as pets

  1. Reminds me of when two of us visited Everglades National Park. We rented bicycles to go into a part of the park not accessed by the main entrance. The chief attraction there seemed to be the alligators. There were many of them on the banks of a river which paralleled the road, some of them half on the road itself, and two or three spread out over the road. These last weren't a big as the bruiser in your photo, though. They seemed very placid—lethargic might be the word—but I know full well that they can spring to life in a second, for I've seen it. Not on this trip but elsewhere: a big alligator (he was as big as the one in the photo) was in the water, seemingly asleep. Suddenly, jaws agape, his whole front end EXPLODED out of the water. He was after something, but I never saw what.
