What a surprise to find your birthday greetings to me on Blog No. 2. I just turned to it. Thank you, Elaine! I am 77 and thus pushing 80. My brother sent me an e-mail the day before yesterday saying "Happy 76th." A year younger––that made me feel good––but he sent a correction the next day. I am feeling under the weather today, but I had an enjoyable day yesterday and went out to eat, and it augurs well for tomorrow, I can tell. I got a beautiful birthday card from Frank & Barbara Cornish, one of Barbara's artistic creations, the next best thing to owning a Rembrandt original. Tomorrow (Dec. 7) is Pearl Harbor day, a "day of infamy" President Roosevelt said. You wouldn't remember it, but I do, even as a young lad. Nelson Mandella died a day or two ago. What a person. The media held out little hope for South Africa to emerge from the turmoil it was in, I remember. Then, after 17 years of imprisonment, Mandella was released and became president of the country, and asked a whole nation to FORGIVE their enemies; and because of the respect they had for him, they did, and the country was saved from much terrible bloodshed that could have followed. My day is simply sandwiched in between two memorable days. Thanks again, Elaine.
