I would like to know WHY it has been so difficult for the US to implement universal health care. Is part of the reason because we have the best and most speedily-delivered health care in the world here (which of course costs money), and our people would not stand for less? Is a part of the reason because the US is the leader of the free world, protecting many other countries from aggression with our military, and paying most of the freight for this. Is a part of the reason that the cost of drugs and medical care here have gone into the stratosphere? Is a part of the reason that our capitalistic economy—a wise system in many ways because it in general makes GOOD USE of greed, an evil—needs some checks in order that the greed factor not get out of hand?
I can't help but think that the US might be able to better manage universal health coverage for its people were we not helping out so much of the world. There has never in history been a nation so beneficent as the US. This is a good thing—a wonderful thing and amazing. It makes me empathetic concerning the health care plight we are in. I think it is very easy for other countries (if they do) to condemn us for not having universal health care.
