New shooting sport park

A new shooting sport park is opening later this year in western Palm Beach County, and it will be one of the largest in the state.
The Palm Beach County Shooting Sports Park will open near the main entrance to J.W. Corbett Wildlife Management Area and Everglades Youth Conservation Center Camp.
The park’s administrative building and restroom have been completed and landscaping will be done this month, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
There have been challenges during construction. The FWC is working through getting contractors to finish a drinking water plant. When construction is done, the 100-yard rifle and handgun ranges will be open on weekends.
While park-goers use those ranges, contractors will be working on other shooting lines and the trap and skeet fields, the FWC said.
When completed, the park will have five rifle and handgun ranges, five Olympic trap fields, six American trap fields, nine skeet fields and a 15-station sporting clays course.

Scammers May Be Using DNA Testing to Defraud Medicare and Steal Identities

State authorities warn that DNA testers have targeted poor neighborhoods and senior communities.
Authorities in several states are warning about an alleged scam in which people visit senior-living communities and low-income neighborhoods, offering to perform DNA tests and collecting information from people in government health programs.  The alleged DNA-testing scams appear to be a new twist on an old tactic, in which people are tricked into giving away personal information or participating in medical services they don’t need. Perpetrators of such schemes can bill the government for unneeded medical tests and procedures, or use the information they collect — such as Medicare and Medicaid identification data — to commit identity theft and fraud.

Politically Correct

I think sports fans will get a kick out of this letter written to the Chicago Tribune.... Enjoy!

No matter which side you are on in the matter of renaming the Washington Redskins, this is funny. This guy is hilarious...
Here is an e-mail sent to Clarence Page of the Chicago Tribune after an article he published concerning a name change for the Washington Redskins.

Dear Mr. Page:  I agree with our Native American population.
I am highly insulted by the racially charged name of the Washington Redskins. One might argue that to name a professional football team after Native Americans would exalt them as fine warriors, but nay, nay. We must be careful not to offend, and in the spirit of political correctness and courtesy, we must move forward.

Let's ditch the Kansas City Chiefs, the Atlanta Braves and the Cleveland Indians.  If your shorts are in a wad because of the reference the name Redskins makes to skin color, then we need to get rid of the Cleveland Browns.

The Carolina Panthers obviously were named to keep the memory of militant Blacks from the 60's alive. Gone. It's offensive to us white folk.

The New York Yankees offend the Southern population. Do you see a team named for the Confederacy? No! There is no room for any reference to that tragic war that cost this country so many young men's lives.

I am also offended by the blatant references to the Catholic religion among our sports team names. Totally inappropriate to have the New Orleans Saints, the Los Angeles Angels or the San Diego Padres.

Then there are the team names that glorify criminals who raped and pillaged. We are talking about the horrible Oakland Raiders, the Minnesota Vikings, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Pittsburgh Pirates!

Now, let us address those teams that clearly send the wrong message to our children. The San Diego Chargers promote irresponsible fighting or even spending habits. Wrong message to our children.
The New York Giants and the San Francisco Giants promote obesity, a growing childhood epidemic. Wrong message to our children.
The Cincinnati Reds promote downers/barbiturates.  Wrong message to our children.
The Milwaukee Brewers.  Well that goes without saying.  Wrong message to our children.

the rest is REDACTED :-)

American bravery recognized by thousands in UK

I went to school in Sheffield, impressive to see the memories.
A touching event in Sheffield, UK this week.  In 1944 an american B17 bomber plane crashed in Endcliffe Park with the loss of all 10 flight crew. The plane had been on a raid  to Denmark but had been severely damaged by Nazi enemy fighters and had limped back to the UK.  It had hoped to get back to its base in Suffolk  but eventually had to descend through the clouds and found itself  100 miles adrift, over Sheffield.  The park has a large grassy area but in coming down the crew realised that there were children playing there so they tried waving to the children for them to move. The children thought the waving was just for them and they waved back. Eventually, the pilot put the plane into an embankment at one side of the park and all crew perished.
In 1959 a small memorial was built on the site of the crash and for many years one man (Tony Faulds-- who was one of the children at the time of the crash) has tended it, particularly because of guilt feelings he had. A couple of months ago Tony started to raise the wish that the 75th anniversary of the crash should be marked by a fly-past  and gradually this gained momentum, with the UK-based american airforces  agreeing. This took place and was impressive. Thousands of people turned out to watch it and it dominated BBC TV news broadcasting at the time.
The flypast concluded with a pack of 4  F15 fighters flying in formation with one  climbing vertically and doing a complete roll.

A search on Google looking for the event in Sheffield/Endcliffe Park/ flyover should find info if you want to look further and see video. The plane was named  Mi Amigo.

Whose dumpster is it ! !

Att: 1/14/2019 LCAM UCO Report: DUMPSTER NEWS-

There have been several reports of unit owners arguing about dumpsters “belonging” to one Association or another. Associations should advise their members that no Association “owns” any particular dumpster- Solid Waste Authority, contracted with Waste Pro, provides a set amount of cubic yardage (dumpster space) to each unit. For a twenty-four unit garden apartment building, with a two yard dumpster at each end, this works out to approximately three cubic yards, or one and one half dumpsters. Dumpsters are distributed throughout Community for best coverage, and any resident may use any dumpster that is most convenient.

A parent thing

What do I want for Christmas?
My family each year ask me the same question. Here is my real answer:
What do I want for Christmas? I want you. I want you to rant about your problems, rant about life, whatever. Tell me about your job, your worries, your friends, the kids, your fur babies. I want you to continue sharing your life with me. Thank goodness for phones and pc's, laugh with me, or laugh at me, I don't care. Hearing you laugh is music to me.
I spent a lot of my life raising you the best way I knew how, you worked out pretty well. Now, give me time to sit back and admire my work.
I want you to spend your money making a better life for you and your families, I have the things I need. I want to see you happy and healthy. When you ask me what I want for Christmas, I say "nothing" because you've already been giving me my gift all year. I want you and I want to be content, live with good government that keeps things neat, clean, orderly, tolerant, little crime. Boring is good.

Assoc Preparedness Plan

Does your association have a preparedness plan (we have been asked that by absent owners)
Here is our work in progress (WIP)  -
• create an emergency to-do list and a preparedness plan
• maintain a roster of residents, Assoc bank information and staff information, including names, addresses and phone numbers
• maintain keys to each unit
• have copies of the wind, flood and property insurance policies digitally, as well as in water-proof containers
• photograph/take video of the interiors and exteriors of the property and common areas, for before and after proofs.
• collect emergency supplies in event of an emergency, including flashlights, batteries, radios, water and non-perishables See previous post.
• review the insurance deductible to determine whether the association has necessary funds on hand, or if it has to plan to obtain some, in event of an emergency
• verify emergency evacuation routes
• prior to a storm, contact vendors to take precautionary measures, such as cutting down trees, clearing debris, securing common elements, and shuttering windows/doors. Involve maintenance company as needed.
• plan for water and electric shut-off times and furniture storage !?
• assign a communications facilitator to keep residents updated and informed, possibly via association website or text messaging
• know which residents will remain on the property during the emergency
• encourage all residents to stay informed

Florida, statute doesn’t dictate exactly what an association must plan for when it comes to emergencies. Of course, a board still has a fiduciary duty to protect its property and residents.  It’s in the association’s best interests to be ready for an emergency, even if the law isn’t breathing down its back. Shari Wald Garrett, an associate at the law firm of Siegfried, Rivera, Hyman, Lerner, De La Torre, Mars, and Sobel, P.A., offers these suggestions to associations, noting that these are not all-inclusive.

Happy Bonfire Night

Make the treacle toffee and parkin, and charcoaled potatoes.
Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, ’twas his intent
To blow up the King and Parli’ment.
Three-score barrels of powder below
To prove old England’s overthrow;
By God’s mercy he was catch’d
With a dark lantern and burning match.
Hulloa boys, Hulloa boys, let the bells ring.
Hulloa boys, hulloa boys, God save the King!
